Chicago Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon is already starting to work toward 2024.
In a recent post on Twitter, Taillon showed video of his first workouts leading up to next season, as he performed a weighted ball drill.
Taillon wrapped up his first year in Chicago with an 8-10 record and a 4.84 ERA. He threw 154.1 innings in 30 games (29 start), with 140 strikeouts and 41 walks.
The Cubs were unable to make the playoffs despite being in the Wild Card hunt going into the final week of the regular season. A stumble down the stretch kept them from taking the final Wild Card spot, which Arizona claimed and rode a wave of momentum to the World Series.
Taillon captioned his post on Twitter as “Back to Work!”
“Back to work! Ready to get after it and make positive changes/adjustments, and come back stronger! A new favorite weighted ball drill- finding that backside tension and angle and lifting into it/holding it throughout the delivery.”
Taillon will enter the second year of his four-year contract in 2024, as he signed a $68 million deal with the Cubs last offseason. His deal comes with a limited no-trade clause.
Taillon has a career record of 59-45 after breaking in with Pittsburgh in 2016. He spent two seasons with the New York Yankees (2021-22) before signing the deal with the Cubs.
The Cubs are turning their attention to free agency and the offseason with the World Series going on in Arizona. The Cubs’ highest priority is to find a way to keep first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger, who is nearly certain to pass on his contract option and explore free agency.
