Watch: Cubs turn double play between three seagulls

The Chicago Cubs got New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos to ground into what would have normally been a pretty routine 4-6-3 double play in the top of the second inning on Sunday night.

But there was an extra challenging layer thrown into for Cubs middle infielders Nico Hoerner (second base) and Dansby Swanson (shortstop).

The presence of three random seagulls decided the middle of the Wrigley Field infield would be a good place to hang out and take a break.

As Vientos' ground ball was hit up the middle, the seagulls scattered and Hoerner and Swanson were able to fight through that distraction and start the inning-ending double play.

Have a look.

Birds being near baseball fields have had some bad luck in the past. Especially Seagulls as one met an unfortunate end at the old Exhibition Stadium in Toronto when it got in the way of a Dave Winfield throw from the outfield.

Then of course there was the Randy Johnson spring training incident.

Fortunately for these three they were just mildly inconvenienced. Fortunately for the Cubs, it did not disrupt the play.
