Watch: Down four runs in the ninth, Marlins rally in amazing comeback win against Yankees

With New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole on the mound Sunday, the Marlins knew they were going to be in for a battle.

After another brilliant start, Cole exited the game after the sixth inning with the score 7-2 and the Yankees leading comfortably.

Able to pick up another run in the eighth inning, the Marlins entered the ninth down 7-3, while the Yankees handed the ball over to closing pitcher Clay Holmes to finish the game.

With only one run allowed in his last 14 appearances, Holmes was welcomed to the game by Marlins first baseman Yulieski Gurriel's inning-opening double.

After rebounding by striking out the next batter, Holmes would allow the two more Marlins to reach base bringing the tying run to the plate.

With the bases loaded he was able to induce a ground ball by Marlins designated hitter Josh Bell, but would commit a costly error on his own throw that would allow two runners to score and for everyone to be safe.

Down by two runs, the next batter was Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez, who tied the game by lacing a two-run triple past a diving Yankees defender.

With the winning run on third, the Yankees went to their bullpen, bringing in relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle to face Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz.

After walking De La Cruz, Marlins third baseman Jake Burger would send Marlins fans home happy with a walk-off single to left field for his third hit of the game.

A huge win for the Marlins, as their victory slides them past the Chicago Cubs for the last National League Wild Card spot and improves their record to 62-57.

As for the Yankees, this loss will have them slip further out of playoff contention in the American League.
