Watch: Mets outfielder has terrible time trying to make routine throw

The New York Mets dropped a 6-4 decision in Atlanta on Tuesday night, and it included a rather forgettable experience for Mets outfielder Jeff McNeil.

With the Mets trailing, 5-4, in the bottom of the eighth inning, Braves outfielder Eddie Rosario ripped a ball to left field for what should have been an easy double.

He ended up on third base after McNeil kept fumbling the ball like he had dipped his hands into a tub of butter.

Just a brutal play. Obviously, that would go into the scorecard as a fielding error allowing Rosario to end up on third base. That would end up being a costly play as Rosario was able to score on a groundout by Marcel Ozuna to extend Atlanta's lead at a big moment in the game.

Along with the error, McNeil also went 0-for-3 with a walk at the plate.
Even worse for the Mets is the fact they now find themselves below .500 on the season with a 30-31 record after the loss.

This was a season that began with World Series expectations after a big winter of spending and one of the league's largest payrolls. It is a star-studded roster that should be better than this but now finds itself in third place in the National League East and already 6.5 games behind Atlanta for the top spot in the division.

The Mets would not even make the playoffs if the postseason were to begin now, sitting 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot in the National League.
