Watch: Mets top prospect Brett Baty smashes two-run homer in first major-league at-bat

A day after receiving the call-up to the major leagues, New York Mets' top prospect Brett Baty didn't wait long to make an impact for the big-league club.

Baty, inserted into the Mets' starting lineup Thursday night, smashed a two-run home run in his first major-league at-bat.

In the bottom of the second inning, Baty drove a 1-0 breaking ball from Atlanta Braves starter Jake Odorizzi over the right-field wall, giving the Braves a 4-0 lead.

Baty had several family and friends in attendance, who went understandably bonkers after the long ball.

Hit by injuries to Eduardo Escobar and Luis Guillorme, the Mets called up the 22-year-old from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

In six games with Syracuse, Baty batted .364/.462/.364 with eight hits and three walks over 26 plate appearances.

Baty hit 19 home runs with 59 RBI in 89 games for Double-A Binghamton, slashing .312/.406/.544.

After finding success at two levels this season, Baty is ready to prove it in the majors.

"Definitely putting emphasis on these last two months, it's been really fun out there for sure," Baty said, via Anthony DiComo of the Mets' official website. "I've been going out there with so much confidence, and playing with confidence, you're always going to have fun. I'm just looking to ... be the best baseball player I can be to help the New York Mets in the future."

The Mets selected Baty with the 12th pick in the 2019 draft out of Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas. Baty quickly climbed up the Mets' minor-league ranks, advancing from Single-A Brooklyn to Binghamton last season. After beginning this season in Double-A, the Mets promoted Baty to Syracuse earlier this month.

New York entered Wednesday's action holding a 3.5-game lead over the Braves in the NL East. At 75-42, only the Los Angeles Dodgers (80-35) have a better record than the Mets in the National League.
