Watch: Phillies 1B Bryce Harper breaks slump with two HRs vs. Reds

Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper broke out of his hitless slump to begin the 2024 season in a major way on Tuesday night.

Following an 0-for-11 start in Philadelphia's first three games, Harper hit two home runs in his first two at-bats against the Reds.

He drove his first longball several rows deep into left-center field.

Then he pulled the second to right on a laser shot that easily cleared the outfield wall.

Like Harper, the Phillies have started slow this season, going 1-3 in their first four games. Philadelphia was outscored 21-7 in its first two games against the Braves and lost 6-3 in extras to the Reds in Monday night's opener of a three-game series. Harper missed the team's 5-4 win against Atlanta on Sunday.

Per Stathead, Harper's three-game hitless streak was his longest to start the season in his 13-year career.

The two-time NL MVP wasn't going to go the entire season without recording a hit, but he certainly picked a flashy way to get on the board in 2024.

It couldn't have come at a better time for the Phillies, either. He's responsible for Philadelphia's only two runs against Cincinnati as it clings to a 2-1 lead through five innings.
