Watch: Yankees' top prospect finds out he made Opening Day roster

New York Yankees shortstop and top prospect Anthony Volpe had already impressed the team's best player, and he apparently impressed the coaching staff and front office enough to make the team's opening day lineup.

The Yankees gave us an inside look at that conversation, and manager Aaron Boone made sure to drag it out as much as possible to build up some of the drama for the 21-year-old shortstop.

Boone starts off by talking about the fierce competition and how Volpe only had 20 games of experience at Triple-A and citing the need for more development, making it sound like Volpe might be headed back for the minors. But then he quickly redirects and says that development should happen at the Major League level and congratulates him for making the opening day roster.

Volpe had an incredible spring and should have done enough to win the team's opening day starting shortstop job.

If he does start he would be just the third rookie to make an opening day start for the Yankees since 2009, joining Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge during that time.
