It's no secret that New York Mets promising young third baseman Brett Baty struggled in the major leagues this season.

As a result, he was sent back down to Triple-A Syracuse on August 7 to work on his offense and defense. Even Baty said himself that the game was just too fast for him on both sides of the ball, which means he needs further development.

So what has he done since being optioned to the minor leagues?

In six games since being back with Syracuse, Baty is 7-for-24 (.292) with three home runs and 10 RBIs.

This is an encouraging start for a player, who controls his own destiny regarding the time it will take for him to be recalled to the major league roster.

Baty, who overtook Eduardo Escobar for the starting third base job earlier in the season, played in 86 games for the Mets, but hit just .216/.289/.331 with a .620 OPS, seven home runs and 27 RBIs. This was not expected from a player, who was once the Mets' No. 2 ranked prospect.

And on defense, Baty had a rough go at third with -6 Outs Above Average and -4 Runs Prevented, per Baseball Savant.

However, the Mets are still hopeful that Baty, who is just 23-years-old, can be their third baseman of the future. He has shown flashes in the big-leagues, but needs to find consistency both at the plate and in the field.

The hope is that he can figure things out in the minors and come back up to the major leagues ready to go next time around. If not, It'd be a significant blow to the trajectory of this Mets team.
