The Chicago White Sox are off to a dreadful 1-8 start to the 2024 campaign. The lone bright spot thus far is the starting pitching, but the offense ranks among the worst in the league in several categories. Chicago's bullpen imploded in  four games against Kansas City, and the "improved defense" committed four errors that led to four unearned runs.

Nevertheless, the White Sox have chosen to employ a bullpen day in Monday's series opener against the Cleveland Guardians, who will send Triston McKenzie to the mound. Tanner Banks will open for the White Sox after surrendering a hit and a walk with four strikeouts in two innings pitched this season. Michael Kopech, Bryan Shaw, Jordan Leasure, and Tim Hill will likely follow Banks.

Michael Soroka will take the hill in game two against Logan Allen, whom the South Siders faced four times last year. Tanner Bibee will toe the rubber for the Guardians in the series finale against Erick Fedde. Bibee earned the win in his only career start against the White Sox. He tossed 6.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks. He fanned six hitters.

News and Notes

The White Sox provided an update on center fielder Luis Robert Jr. on Monday. The All-Star is expected to miss up to eight weeks with a grade 2 hip flexor strain.

Gavin Sheets is off to a hot start to the season. He went 5-for-12 with a double, a homer, two runs, and three walks in four games against the Royals.

What's On Tap Next?

The Pale Hose are still searching for their second win of 2024. They head to Cleveland touting a four-game losing streak and a 0-7 mark against the AL Central. Chicago's reliable starting pitching will have their work cut out for them in Cleveland, as the Guardians currently lead the American League in runs scored.
