White Sox designate veteran outfielder Adam Eaton for assignment

Adam Eaton's time with the Chicago White Sox is coming to an end.

The White Sox announced Wednesday that the veteran outfielder has been designated for assignment.

Chicago signed Eaton to a one-year, $8 million deal after the 2020 season. He has struggled through 58 games with the White Sox, slashing .201/.298/.344 with five home runs and 28 RBI.

Eaton has also missed time this season due to injury, which has contributed to his struggles at the plate.

Chicago's decision to sign Eaton during the offseason was a questionable one as the franchise boasts one of the deepest outfields in Major League Baseball with Adam Engel, Leury Garcia, Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Jake Lamb, Andrew Vaughn, Billy Hamilton and Brian Goodwin.

It's unclear which teams might be interested in Eaton's services, but he'll undoubtedly return to the field with another team this season.
