The Chicago White Sox swapped a pair of pitchers ahead of Monday's series opener against the Cleveland Guardians. As reliever John Brebbia heads to the 15-day injured list (retroactive to April 6) with a right calf strain, left-hander Jared Shuster joins the big-league club.

Brebbia's calf issue has been lingering since Spring Training. However, he was deemed fit to make the Opening Day roster and tossed 2.2 scoreless innings before another flare-up.

On Friday against the Kansas City Royals, Brebbia fielded a groundball to the side of the mound and reaggravated his calf issue, causing him to exit the game early. The veteran right-hander was seen in a walking boot in the White Sox clubhouse on Saturday. Now, he heads to the injured list for proper recovery.

Shuster will take Brebbia's roster spot despite getting roughed up in his first outing with the Charlotte Knights. The southpaw allowed seven runs on six hits, including four home runs, and one walk with two strikeouts in his first Triple-A start this season.

Times are already tough for the White Sox, who enter Monday on a four-game losing streak with a 1-8 overall record. Regardless, the 162-game grind continues with a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. Tanner Banks will serve as the White Sox' opener for Monday's game, which will start at 4:10 PM CT and air on NBC Sports Chicago.
