The Chicago White Sox officially announced they've agreed to terms on a one-year deal with outfielder Tommy Pham. A report on Monday stated that Pham's minor-league deal is worth $3 million with another $1.5 million in performance-based incentives. The veteran will report to the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.

The 36-year-old's new contract includes an opt-out clause. If Chicago doesn't add Pham to the active roster by April 25, he can reconsider his position. However, given the current state of the White Sox offense, it seems highly unlikely.

The team's recent defeat, their fifth straight loss, and the fact that they've been shut out six times in 16 games further underscores the need for Pham's potential contribution.

Offense Please

Pham will get time with the Knights to get acclimated and knock the rust off his game after an extended stay in free agency. The 10-year veteran had a productive 2023 season at the plate for the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks. He slashed .256/.328.446 in 481 plate appearances, good for a 111 OPS+.

The White Sox recently activated DH Eloy Jimenez from the injured list and plan to ease him into their lineup. Jimenez and Pham's bats are desperately needed while Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert Jr. recover from long-term injuries.

What's On Tap Next?

Pham will boost the South Siders' offense after his minor-league stint. Hopefully, he and Jimenez can spark the White Sox' historically bad start. The Sox must make room on their roster for Pham, and options exist to add Robert Jr. to the 60-day IL or move on from one of their four healthy outfielders.

Pham has handled left field for most of his career, but with Andrew Benintendi holding that position, he's likely to take on duties in right field. He's also a trade candidate at the deadline if he can match last year's production.
