After being mathematically eliminated from the postseason over the weekend, the White Sox are continuing to shake up their roster heading into their final few weeks.

According to an afternoon press release, outfielder Oscar Colas is being sent back down to Triple-A Charlotte after ongoing struggles along with reliever Edgar Navarro. As a result, catcher Carlos Perez and newly claimed reliever Deivi García have been recalled.

Colas, 24, will be returning to Triple-A for the second time this season, with his other demotion occurring in early May after breaking camp with the major league squad. In 75 games with the White Sox, the rookie is slashing just .216/.257/.314 (53-for-245) with five home runs, 19 RBI, and a .571 OPS this season. Since being recalled in early July, his average is at .219 across 50 games.

The decision to demote him at this point in time is particularly interesting since Charlotte’s season ends on September 24. The White Sox will likely be looking for him to regain some sort of confidence after showing little to no growth as the year has progressed. Players like Gavin Sheets and Trayce Thompson will likely handle right-field duties on the South Side down the homestretch.

As for García, the 24-year-old has made seven relief appearances with Charlotte since being claimed off waivers from the Yankees on August 10. He is 3-3 with a 5.07 ERA (31 ER/55.0 IP) and 62 strikeouts in 35 games (one start) between the Knights and Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre this season. García also made two relief appearances with the Yankees, posting a 1.59 ERA (1 ER/5.2 IP).

García, who will wear uniform No. 64, is 3-4 with a 4.84 ERA (26 ER/48.1 IP) and 48 strikeouts in 10 appearances (eight starts) over parts of three major-league seasons (2020-21, ’23) with the Yankees.

Pérez is hitting .240/.295/.408 (69-287) with 12 doubles, 12 home runs, and 34 RBI in 77 games with Charlotte in 2023. He has gone 7-for-29 (.241) with two RBI in 18 games over three stints with Chicago.

Navarro is 0-0 with a 7.27 ERA (7 ER/8.2 IP) and nine strikeouts in eight relief appearances with Chicago in 2023.
