White Sox pitcher Ryan Tepera implies Astros are stealing signs again
As if it wasn't bad enough the Houston Astros were steamrolled 12-6 by the Chicago White Sox in Game 3 of the ALDS, they are also getting accused of not letting old habits go as well.
White Sox relief pitcher Ryan Tepera noted after his team's Game 3 victory in Chicago that the Astros have a very different batting average at home than they do on the road. Which, of course, lead to him implying the Houston squad is, once again, stealing signs.
"They've obviously had a reputation of doing some sketchy stuff over there," Tepera said, via ESPN. "It's just, we can say that it's a little bit of a difference. I think you saw the swings and misses tonight compared to, you know, the first two games at Minute Maid."
It isn't known whether the Astros are up to no good again. However, the difference in Houston's ALDS batting average, .308 at home and .182 on the road, is certainly notable.
The Astros were disciplined by the league for using cameras in center field to steal opposing pitchers' signs during the team's 2017 and 2018 postseason runs. General manager Jeff Luhnow and skipper A.J. Hinch were fired as a result.
Whether the Astros are cheating or not, Tepera sounded confident the White Sox pitching arsenal can take care of business.
"All we have to do is execute pitches and they can't hit them anyways," he said.
