White Sox reportedly 'confident' Yasmani Grandal will return this season despite knee surgery

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal is expected to miss four to six weeks with a torn tendon in his left knee.

Although he underwent surgery to repair the injury, the White Sox "remain confident" Grandal will return this season, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Grandal suffered the injury during Monday's 6-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins. He checked his swing during a sixth-inning at-bat and hit the ground in pain.

Grandal joins a long list of injured White Sox players, including Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Nick Madrigal, Aaron Bummer and Evan Marshall. Only Madrigal has been ruled out for the season, though.

Grandal is hitting .188/.388/.436 this season with 14 home runs and 38 RBI in 63 games. His batting average is the lowest of his career.

With the 32-year-old sidelined, the White Sox will rely on Zack Collins and Seby Zavala behind the plate. Zavala was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte and will catch for Lance Lynn on Wednesday.

MLB.com's Scott Merkin notes Chicago could look to add a catcher before this month's trade deadline due to Grandal's injury.
