White Sox slugger Andrew Vaughn out one to two weeks with hip pointer

The bad news is that Chicago White Sox outfielder and slugger Andrew Vaughn is dealing with a hip pointer he suffered while making a diving catch during Sunday's 9-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Vaughn has since received a positive update, though, and learned he could return to action in one to two weeks. That's a relief considering the initial fears he had about the setback.

"As soon as I dove, I landed on my hip," Vaughn explained Wednesday, according to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "Thought I was fine. Got up, wiggled around a little bit. Took that first step and it kind of gave out. My mind went to the worst thought. I'm up walking and I feel pretty good now."

Meanwhile, manager Tony La Russa remarked that the White Sox "dodged a severe bullet" regarding the injury.

"It's kind of like the worst charley horse you ever had," Vaughn added. "It just sticks around and it's kind of lingering. But it's going away. Have a lineman hit you with his helmet, that's what I've been told it feels like."

Vaughn was batting .467 (7-for-15) with a solo home run during spring training before he left the field on a cart on Sunday. The 23-year-old hit .235 with 15 homers and 48 RBI across 127 games during his debut MLB season last year.

Per Lamond Pope of the Chicago Tribune, Gavin Sheets, Leury Garcia, Adam Engel and Micker Adolfo could handle right-field duties during Vaughn's absence.
