The White Sox could be getting one of their key players back very soon.

According to manager Pedro Grifol, third baseman Yoan Moncada is tracking to make his return this weekend in time for the team’s home series vs. Houston. Moncada has been rehabbing with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights since this past Friday, May 5.

Moncada 27, was placed on the 10-day IL (retroactive to April 11) after leaving a game with lower back soreness. It was later revealed that the injury was much more serious, as it was related to a disc issue in his back. It’s hard not to have flashbacks to Joe Crede given how a similar injury ended his career prematurely. Luckily, Moncada has been improving and looking more like his old self during his rehab stint.

Entering Tuesday night’s game, Moncada was 5-for-9 (.556 AVG) with a homer and three RBI on his rehab assignment. Sure enough, his power continued prior to this article’s publication as he launched his second long-ball. With the White Sox this spring, Moncada’s bat impressed as he hit .308/.325/.564 with four doubles, two homers, five RBI, and a 143 wRC+ prior to his injury. The team will look forward to, what should be, a nice addition to their lineup once he returns.

In addition to Moncada, both Liam Hendriks and Garrett Crochet are currently continuing with their rehab assignments in Triple-A. Though no specific timetable has been given for their returns, Grifol says both players are likely to return around the same time.

As we get additional information, we will provide further updates! For more,
