The Chicago White Sox pulled off a trade involving a right-handed pitcher. No, it's not Dylan Cease . Reliever Gregory Santos is reportedly on the move to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for pitcher Prelander Berroa, outfielder Zach DeLoach, and the No. 69 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Santos burst onto the scene as a high-leverage relief option while Liam Hendriks was sidelined for most of the 2023 season. In 60 games with the White Sox, Santos posted a 3.39 ERA, 1.296 WHIP, and 9.0 K/9 across 66.1 innings.

Berroa is a 23-year-old right-hander who got a taste of MLB action with Seattle in 2023. He tossed just 1.2 innings in two appearances at the big-league level but had a 2.89 ERA, 1.286 WHIP, and 13.9 K/9 in 65.1 innings with the Mariners' Double-A affiliate. Berroa finished 2023 as Seattle's No. 15-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline.
DeLoach, a 25-year-old outfielder, was a second-round pick of the Mariners in 2020. For his minor-league career, DeLoach owns a .275/.277/.455 slash line with 51 home runs and 220 RBIs across 1,623 plate appearances. The Texas A&M product slashed .286/.387/.481 with 23 home runs and 88 RBIs across 623 plate appearances with Triple-A Tacoma last season. DeLoach finished 2023 as the Mariners' No. 25-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline.
Adding another draft pick in this deal can't hurt for the White Sox, who are amid a rebuild even if the front office won't explicitly say so. Chicago landed the No. 5 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, falling one spot from their place in the 2023 reverse standings as a result of the Draft Lottery.
The White Sox designated pitcher Lane Ramsey for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
