The Chicago White Sox were set to take on the Cleveland Guardians in the rubber match of a three-game set on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, due to what was noted as unplayable field conditions the game will not be played.

After a lengthy three-hour delay, it was announced that the game has been postponed. Views of the field were available to fans tuning into today’s ballgame were available during the length of the delay as the game was slated to be televised on Peacock’s Sunday National TV broadcast.

The White Sox and Guardians are currently locked in a battle with the Minnesota Twins as the season enters its final stretch. Entering Sunday the Guardians held a 1.0 game lead over the Twins, with the White Sox sitting just 2.5 games behind the division lead.

The cause for the lengthy delay was likely due to the fact that the White Sox are not slated to return to Cleveland again this season, forcing what could be a scheduling nightmare to make up this game. MLB Officials were consulted during the delay about the conditions of the field The White Sox are already slated to head to Kansas City for a makeup game on Monday against the Royals before heading back east for a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles.

According to a tweet from the Cleveland Guardians, a makeup date for the ballgame will be announced at a later date.
