The Braves have had some memorable players come and leave throughout their run as NL East champions over the last five years, but few were more beloved than William “Wild Bill” Contreras, who was traded to the Athletics on Monday in the deal that sent Gold Glove catcher Sean Murphy to Atlanta.

Contreras will always be loved by Braves Country, and he let the fans know via social media of his appreciation during his time in Atlanta.

Here is what Contreras had to say in English:

“I did not expect to leave the Bravos organization in this way, but I am here thanking you for all the opportunities that they gave me, I knew how to make the most of them, thanks to the fans for giving me their support.”

We won’t know for years how the trade for Murphy pans out, but I don’t think you’ll find many Braves fans — if any — rooting against Wild Bill for the remainder of his career. Thank you for the memories, and of course, the trumpets. Best of luck in Milwaukee.
