Yankees broadcaster says Mets are being drama queens over A's possum

Longtime New York Yankees radio broadcaster Suzyn Waldman defended the Oakland Athletics' famous possum on Thursday during the Bronx Bombers game against the Los Angeles Angels. She also called out the crosstown rival New York Mets, who have taken issue with the furry marsupial.

Notably, the Yankees haven't faced the Athletics since last season, and their only three games against the group in 2022 took place in New York. The Yankees are scheduled to face the A's from May 8-10 this year in the Bronx, before traveling to west for the first time since August 2021 for a three-game set from June 27-29.

The Mets, meanwhile, swept a three-game road series against the Athletics from April 14-16. During Game 1 last Friday, SNY's Gary Cohen talked about when the television station's tech team arrived that day to prepare the booth for the game, an odor from "the possum having done his business" forced them to another booth.

"You know, the Mets guys made a big deal of that possum," Waldman said on Thursday. "That possum was there when we were there last year. He has a nest in the radio booth... possums are very sweet, they don’t hurt anybody. Really nice little animals."

The Athletics announced this week that they had signed an agreement to purchase land for a new stadium in Las Vegas, but the relocation isn't expected until 2027. It looks like it will be four more years of possum.
