Yankees give update on injured slugger, potential timeline for return

The New York Yankees lost Giancarlo Stanton to yet another injury when the power-hitting outfielder/DH went on the IL this weekend with a lower-body injury.

On Tuesday, manager Aaron Boone offered a potential timeline on when Yankees fans can expect to see him again.

It could be a while.

Boone said the Yankees are "hoping" that Stanton can return to the lineup in six weeks after his latest trip to the IL, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Keep in mind that "hoping" is doing a lot of work in that sentence, and it seems to indicate that he could be out even longer than that.

Injuries have been a constant problem for Stanton since he joined the Yankees prior to the 2018 season, missing significant time in each of his first six years with the club.

Stanton topped the 30-home run mark in each of his past two seasons despite missing significant time each campaign and had already hit four in his first 13 games this season.

The Yankees were already dealing with significant injuries to their starting rotation and pitching staff at the start of the season with Luis Severino and Frankie Montas already sidelined. Now the Stanton injury has taken away an important bat for more than a month.
