Yankees GM Brian Cashman wants Aaron Boone as manager for '10 more years'

As Newsday previously noted, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has rappelled down tall buildings in Stamford, Conn. as part of his many charitable endeavors throughout the decade.

Cashman was at it again on Friday alongside New York manager Aaron Boone, and Fox News Channel personality Will Cain saw the moment as an ideal time to ask Cashman about Boone's long-term future with the club.

“I’ve had three managers," Cashman responded. "10 (years) with Joe Torre, 10 with (Joe) Girardi, and hopefully 10 more with Boone.”

Boone has been a polarizing figure among New York baseball fans throughout his three-year tenure as manager, largely because he hasn't yet led the storied club to a World Series. The Yankees fell to the Boston Red Sox in the 2018 American League Division Series, lost to the Houston Astros in the 2019 American League Championship Series, and then came up short versus the Tampa Bay Rays in this year's ALDS.

The 47-year-old has also been unlucky, particularly during the pandemic-shortened campaign when injuries prevented him from playing his best lineup throughout the summer.

As Coby Green wrote for SNY, the Yankees recently picked up Boone's option for the 2021 season, but some believe anything short of a Fall Classic appearance could cause Cashman to search for a more-proven candidate roughly 11 months from now.
