The New York Yankees certainly seem interested in adding a new starting pitcher soon.

New York got some devastating news this week that 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole will miss at least one or two months after undergoing an MRI on his pitching elbow but it's unclear exactly how much time he will miss.

The Yankees attempted to trade for former Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease but missed out as the San Diego Padres swooped in and got a deal done.

There still are some players available in free agency who could help but the club likely won't land top, expensive options like Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery. There are other options that could help, though.

New York reportedly has "checked in" on one-time All-Star Michael Lorenzen about a possible deal, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"Yankees have checked in on Michael Lorenzen," Heyman said. "Would be nice addition for a team that really could use two starters. (Chicago White Sox) among others in play."

Lorenzen earned his lone All-Star nod last season and impressed. He began the season with the Detroit Tigers and impressed with a 3.58 ERA in 18 starts before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The veteran struggled overall after being dealt to Philadelphia -- although he did pitch a no-hitter -- and now is looking for his next opportunity.

He would be a significantly cheaper option than someone like Snell or Montgomery and would give the club some stability in Cole's absence.
