NEW YORK - The New York Yankees called up two top prospects in infielder Oswald Peraza and outfielder Everson Pereira on Tuesday.

As a result, they placed outfielder Billy McKinney on the 10-day injured list with lower back spasms and designated outfielder Greg Allen for assignment.

McKinney had been dealing with what the Yankees called "back stiffness" lately, but the condition worsened, which forced them to put the outfielder on the IL.

McKinney, who has handled the bulk of left field duties, was in a horrid 13-for-70 (.186) slump in his last 30 games. This is part of the reason why the Yankees are calling up Pereira to take over in left field, where the team has lacked production.

In Allen's case, he was the last man on the bench and the odd man out when the Yankees had to clear room on the roster for their youngsters.

In addition to the arrival of the top prospects in the Bronx, left-handed starting pitcher Carlos Rodon has returned from the IL and will start on Tuesday night against the Washington Nationals.
