Yankees manager Aaron Boone: Aroldis Chapman's role as closer will be evaluated

The New York Yankees entered the seventh inning of Sunday's opening game of a doubleheader against the New York Mets with a 5-4 lead. Then they allowed six runs, ultimately falling to the Mets 10-5.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman gave up a game-tying home run to Pete Alonso in the top of the seventh. He allowed three runs in total before exiting.

According to Seth Rothman of YES Network, Chapman owns a 22.24 ERA over his last nine appearances, allowing 14 runs in 5.2 innings. He's also walked nine batters, who are hitting .483 against him.

Because of his struggles, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said following Sunday's loss that Chapman's role as the closer will be evaluated, according to Sports Illustrated's Max Goodman.

The Yankees are now 41-41 on the season, 10 games behind the AL East-leading Boston Red Sox.

With things getting worse in the Bronx, it certainly seems like the Yankees could be sellers at this year's trade deadline despite chairman Hal Steinbrenner saying he'd be willing to exceed the luxury tax to add improvements.
