The New York Yankees got some unfortunate news on key hitter, Matt Carpenter earlier today. The veteran slugger had been stellar for the Yankees before fracturing his foot off a foul ball in August.

Yankees slugger Matt Carpenter still not ready for baseball activity:

It was reported that his x-ray showed healing, but his foot is still not where it needs to be to start getting back into baseball activity. Carpenter is set to get yet another x-ray in 10-14 days.

Since Carpenter went down with an injury, the Yankees lineup has had its fair share of struggles. The batting order has been a complete liability as of late and needs a consistent, veteran bat like Carpenter.

On the year, in 47 games played with 128 at-bats, Carpenter is batting an impressive .305 with 15 home runs, 37 runs batted in, and a 1.138 OPS.

Carpenter did reportedly join the team down in Tampa for the recent series with the Rays. He was still in a walking boot with the foot fracture he is recovering from.

With the Yankees division lead down to 4.5 games with only 27 games left to play, the time to return and make an impact in the regular season is getting slimmer. As the Yankees look to make a late push and get hot at the right time, hopefully, Carpenter can make some needed progress soon.
