Major League Baseball just released its schedule for the truncated 2020 season. It is now set to release a schedule for what will hopefully be a full slate of games starting next spring.

There’s also going to be a pretty meaningful game on the anniversary of one of America’s darkest moments.

“This will be the first time the Mets and Yankees play each other on that date, and it will be just the second time that they are both playing in New York City on Sept. 11. In 2014, the Mets hosted the Nationals and the Yankees hosted the Rays,” Tim Healey of Newsday reported on Tuesday.

To say this is significant would be an understatement. It was 19 years ago this Sept. 11 that nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in separate attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in the nation’s capital and a field in Pennsylvania.

We all remember then-President George W. Bush throwing the first pitch of the 2001 World Series at Yankee Stadium in New York. It was a reminder that the United States can overcome even the darkest days in her history.

For this game to take place on the 20th anniversary of that dark day, it’s a symbol from baseball. And it’s going to be something else to watch.
