Yankees move Gleyber Torres from shortstop to second base

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres has committed a total of 18 errors this season, including one in the Sunday night loss to the New York Mets.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone has seen enough.

Boone moved Torres back to second base for the Monday afternoon matchup against the Minnesota Twins.

"Try to take a little pressure off him," Boone said of his decision, per Dan Martin of the New York Post. "We’ll give that a look."

As part of the infield reshuffling, DJ LeMahieu shifted to third base, while Tyler Wade went to shortstop. Boone suggested he will play Gio Urshela at shortstop starting with Tuesday's game at the Baltimore Orioles.

The Yankees enter Monday afternoon having dropped eight of nine contests to fall to 79-64 and one game out of the playoff picture as it pertains to a wild-card berth.

"The past week he’s struggled out there and it’s definitely weighed on him," Boone added about Torres' defensive miscues. "I think sometimes [his struggles] become such a story, one play becomes a narrative for a long time and at time, it’s been really unfair. There have been large chunks [of time] when he’s had really steady play."
