Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner confident in Aaron Boone, Brian Cashman

Earlier this week, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman offered a fresh vote of confidence for manager Aaron Boone when the Bronx Bombers held a 40-38 record. Since that time, New York earned a home win against the Los Angeles Angels but then suffered an implosion for the record books on Wednesday night that had some fans calling for both Boone and Cashman to be shown the door before the upcoming July 4 holiday, let alone ahead of the All-Star break.

Nevertheless, owner Hal Steinbrenner insisted when speaking with reporters Thursday that both men will keep their jobs for now.

"I'm just a believer in seeing an entire body of work from an employee, irregardless of what department they're in. And we do that year to year to year and every year," Steinbrenner said, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), while adding he's not keen on acting like his late father George, who built a reputation for changing managers whenever things began to go wrong for the club.

"Even somebody's in the middle of a contract, at the end of the year, I'm going to look at their performance and I'm going to make a decision whether to continue with that person or not continue with that person, irregardless of whether or not they're under contract," Steinbrenner continued. "And doing it knee-jerk reaction to appease this person or that person in the middle of a year when I really don't think there's a problem, that certainly is something I'm not going to do."

As of Thursday afternoon, the fourth-place Yankees trail the rival first-place Boston Red Sox by 8.5 games in the American League East standings.
