Yankees owner reveals if jobs are in jeopardy this summer

New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner remains committed to manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman but could change his mind by November.

"Nobody is on the hot seat right now," Steinbrenner said during a Wednesday appearance on "The Michael Kay Show" that airs on ESPN New York, per Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "Let’s get through the season. Let’s see what happens."

Last month, Steinbrenner suggested he'd only part ways with Boone during the season if the players stopped wanting "to win for him." Steinbrenner also blamed the club's many injury woes for a relatively uninspiring start to the campaign.

With slugger Aaron Judge potentially out through the All-Star break due to a toe issue, the Yankees entered Wednesday night having lost eight of their previous 13 contests. They trailed the first-place Tampa Bay Rays by 10 games in the American League East standings but were tied for possession of a wild-card berth at that time.

Steinbrenner added on Wednesday he is "going to start asking the questions" if he feels injuries aren't to blame for the Yankees either missing the playoffs or failing to complete a memorable postseason journey.

"If we don’t make the playoffs and we’re healthy the second half of the year and we start getting guys back and we get the team that we intended to be on the field, then I’m going to be asking some tough questions," he said.

Boone put pen to paper on a three-year contract that includes a club option for 2025 in October 2021, and Steinbrenner signed Cashman to a deal that runs through the 2026 season this past December. Some fans want both Boone and Cashman shown the door sooner rather than later, but Steinbrenner clearly isn't panicking ahead of July.

"I think we’re going to be fine," Steinbrenner insisted on Wednesday. "I believe we’re going to be fine. People can call me delusional for saying that, but these guys are just too good."
