On Tuesday, New York Yankees beat reporter Bryan Hoch gave out very promising updates on star prospect Jasson Dominguez; he reported that the 21-year-old is already shagging fly balls in center field, will begin playing catch soon, and should start swinging a bat by the end of camp.
Just three days later, more good news came regarding the recovery of the Dominican wunderkind.
Randy Miller of NJ.com reported that a week from Monday, Dominguez will pick up a bat and start hitting.
"If things keep going as well as they've been going, Dominguez might be playing extended Spring Training games in Tampa by April," Miller reported.
In addition to having his hitting drills scheduled, Dominguez is continuing his throwing program. SNY Yankees provided a video of the youngster's rehab from Friday morning.
Dominguez was still placed on the 60-day injured list on Wednesday, although this was to make room for relief pitcher Lou Trivino on the 40-man roster. Nonetheless, all this progress may have accelerated Dominguez's return to the majors; accounting for the rehab games he will play for either the Double-A Somerset Patriots or the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the 21-year-old could be back as soon as June.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone also provided more positive updates for Hoch to report, regarding Dominguez's timetable.
"We actually asked Boone, 'Does that mean [by] June he'll be in rehab games?', and Boone kind of looked at us like we were crazy," Hoch said on SNY Baseball Night in New York. "He said, 'No, that means like April, or maybe May.', so I think the timetable here is a little more accelerated. They're not going to rush Jasson Dominguez, but he may be a little closer to being back in center field for the New York Yankees than initially thought."
Needless to say, there's plenty of excitement surrounding Dominguez and the Yankees as he progresses back from injury. Despite playing in just eight MLB games in 2023, the Martian demonstrated that he has all the makings of a five-tool player, and he can immediately ignite the team upon his return.
