The New York Yankees are telling a notable All-Star pitcher, “We’re good.”

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on Sunday that free agent right-hander Marcus Stroman has informed the Yankees that he is “seriously interested” in signing with them. However, the Yankees declined to make Stroman an offer, Nightengale adds.

With the Chicago Cubs last season, Stroman made the second All-Star team of his career, going 10-9 with a 3.95 ERA. But he will be 33 in May, does not strike out a lot of batters, and has not pitched 200 innings in a single season since 2017. Stroman has also been dogged by questions over his maturity, especially after his previous stint in New York.

For the Yankees, they have been very calculated about where to spend their money this offseason, passing on another big free agent due to a reported concern with his game. It probably doesn’t help either that Stroman once publicly scoffed at the suggestion of joining the Yankees.
