The New York Yankees certainly have been bitten by the injury bug this season.

New York entered the season with World Series aspirations but things haven't gone as planned. The Yankees currently are in last place in the American League East with a disappointing 71-72 record and are in real danger this season of finishing below .500 for the first time since 1992.

Injuries have played a major role in the Yankees' struggles this season and they keep piling up. New York recently lost slugger Jasson Domínguez for the rest of the 2023 campaign and most of the 2024 season with an elbow injury. Infielder Oswald Peraza also is dealing with an injury himself with swelling in his left knee. Everson Pereira is healthy, but felt sick Monday night.

Although the Yankees have been dealt a bad hand recently, manager Aaron Boone gave a positive update on Peraza and Pereira on Monday, according to the New York Daily News Sports' Gary Phillips.

"Following the postponement (of Monday night's contest against the Boston Red Sox), Boone also said that Everson Pereira was feeling under the weather, while Oswald Peraza is day-to-day with swelling in his left knee," Phillips said. "Neither player was in Monday’s lineup.

"Boone added that an MRI revealed that Peraza’s knee is structurally sound. 'We’ll see if he’s in play by tomorrow,' the skipper said."

The fact that both Peraza and Pereira don't sound as if they will miss time certainly is positive. Pereira was placed back in the starting lineup Tuesday and Peraza likely isn't far behind.
