Astros sign Carlos Correa's brother as undrafted free agent

Houston Astros fans will be seeing double if the 2020 season ever gets underway amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The organization has signed J.C. Correa, brother of Carlos, for $20,000 as an undrafted free agent, according to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com).

Houston originally picked Correa in the later rounds of the last two drafts, but this year's draft was cut short due to the coronavirus, so he was signed as a UDFA.

Correa averaged .245 at the plate this season for Lamar University before it was cut short due to COVID-19. Last season, he led the team with a .332 batting average, 10 home runs and 44 RBI.

While Correa played all over the infield in college, the Astros listed him as a second baseman.

The Astros went without a first- and second-round pick in this year's draft as part of the punishment for their sign-stealing scandal, but they clearly want to add depth to their prospective ranks.
