The Boston Red Sox had their middle game against the St. Louis Cardinals rained out yesterday. They will play a doubleheader. Sean Newcomb who was supposed to start tonight will start the first game. The Red Sox have called up their 13th-ranked prospect. Right-handed pitcher Hunter Dobbins. He will take the 27th roster spot with today’s doubleheader. Dobbins in his lone appearance at Triple-A Worcester struggled. He went 3.2 innings giving up five runs on three hits; he walked three and struck out two. This spring in two starts he posted a 4.50 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and three strikeouts in four innings.

The Red Sox drafted Dobbins in the eighth round of the 2021 draft. He debuted in 2022 at Single-A Salem where he made 17 starts going 0-5 with a 5.22 ERA, a 1.51 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts in 69 innings. In 2023 he pitched at High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland making 20 appearances with 19 of those coming as starts going 9-6 with a 3.67 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and 122 strikeouts in 112.2 innings. Last season he pitched at Portland and Triple-A Worcester making 25 starts going 8-5 with a 3.08 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and 120 strikeouts in 125.2 innings.
