Braves place Travis d'Arnaud on 60-day IL with thumb injury

The Atlanta Braves will be without catcher Travis d'Arnaud for at least the next two months after he was placed on the 60-day injured list with a sprained left thumb, the team announced Sunday:

D'Arnaud left Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth inning after tagging out Randal Grichuk at home plate.

Alex Jackson, who replaced d'Arnaud, also landed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a strained left hamstring. The Braves recalled catchers William Contreras and Jeff Mathis from their alternate site in corresponding moves.

In his second season with the Braves, d'Arnaud is slashing .220/.253/.341 with two home runs and 11 RBI.

The Braves are fourth in the NL East with a 12-15 record. With both of their catchers sidelined, Atlanta could fall further in the standings over the next few weeks.
