Braves tweet joke that Ronald Acuna Jr. homer caused Georgia earthquake

An earthquake measuring at a 4.4 magnitude was recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey at approximately 4:14 a.m. local time. Its epicenter was located near Decatur, Tenn., but was felt in Georgia as well. An aftershock measuring 3.3 magnitude also was felt about 13 minutes later.

The Braves took to Twitter a bit later Wednesday morning to crack their Acuna joke.

Acuna slugged 26 home runs in his first major-league season, an outstanding campaign that earned him NL Rookie of the Year honors.

Many of the soon-to-be 21-year-old’s round-trippers were of the long-ball variety, as illustrated in tweets curated by Atlanta’s WSB-TV.

Acuna also launched a 452-foot homer in a game against the Nationals on Aug. 8. The young slugger even opened up his MLB career with a 416-foot blast in his first game back in April.

Earthquakes typically are not fodder for humor, but given how the Braves elected to make a joke about Wednesday’s seismic activity, odds are Georgians were not too impacted by the tremors.
