The Chicago Cubs came out of the All-Star break by defeating the red-hot Boston Red Sox 4-1 at home. Boston entered Wrigley Field winners of 10 straight games. That streak was halted this afternoon. Designated Hitter Seiya Suzuki hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 1st. Cubs Second Base Nico Hoerner added an RBI single in the bottom of the 6th.
That was all the offense Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Colin Rea needed. He surrendered one earned run over five innings of work. Chicago’s bullpen followed it up with four scoreless frames. Can the Cubs keep it going against a solid Red Sox team?
The Cubs are one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. They hold a slim lead in the National League Central. Even though they were held down this afternoon, Chicago’s offense is one of the league’s best. They are seventh in the league in batting average, third in home runs, and second in runs scored. Chicago’s offense has been paced by Suzuki and Center Fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong. Suzuki is sixth in the league in home runs and third in RBI. Crow-Armstrong is seventh in home runs and seventh in RBI.
Chicago’s pitching staff has been hampered by injuries in 2025. They are 14th in ERA, eighth in WHIP, and 20th in opposing batting average. An example of the team’s injury issues is the fact that Starting Pitcher Shota Imanaga has only made 12 starts. If Chicago can pitch better, while maintaining its success on offense, it could be a memorable few months in the “Windy City.”
The Chicago Cubs will look to win tomorrow night’s game against the Boston Red Sox. This is a possible World Series preview. It would go a long way for the Cubs if they could notch a series victory.
