The Chicago Cubs have yet to extend the contract of right fielder Kyle Tucker. The three-time All-Star is expected to want a contract in the range of $400-500 million before the 2026 season.
The Cubs traded a few promising prospects to the Houston Astros for Tucker, knowing he might be a one-year loaner but hoping the star outfielder would give Chicago a chance to go deep in the 2025 playoffs.
Chicago currently has a one-game lead in the NL Central after dropping four of their last five games. Tucker had a hot April but has been sluggish in the last seven days, recording just three hits and one home run in 23 at-bats.
Those numbers aren’t discouraging elite teams this season.
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today on Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers” plan to jump” on Tucker if he hits free agency.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers plan to jump into the free-agent fray for Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker this winter,” Nightengale wrote. “They may not be the high bidder, but they’ll surely keep everyone honest just as they did when they were in the Juan Soto sweepstakes.”
Cubs fans voiced their displeasure at the idea of losing Tucker to an NL titan. Many fans think the Ricketts family is being cheap by not extending Tucker during the season.
“Tom Ricketts after not approaching Tucker about an extension and offering him 4/150 before he chooses the Dodgers,” wrote a fan.

“Cubs Please extend Kyle Tucker Seeing the report about the Dodgers interest is absolutely asinine. Cmon Jed and more especially COME ON TOM. That is all Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s,” posted another.
“If Kyle Tucker signs with the Dodgers I will never watch the MLB again #ExtendTucker,” demanded a fan.
“@CubsYou guys have Dodgers money pay Tucker,” suggested a poster. “Another reason to extend tucker, please keep him from the dodgers,” debated another.
