Brad Peacock pitched last night and so this result is perhaps less surprising now that you are aware.

To be fair, Peacock wasn’t terrible; he tossed five and one-third innings while striking out seven, walking two, and allowing three runs on five hits. Nonetheless, he is 0-4 as a Triple-A starter this season.

Nolan Jones showed signs of breaking from a slump with a 2-4 night that included a double. He also made an error. Alas.

Oscar Gonzalez launched his ninth home run of the season in the sixth inning to bring Columbus within one. We must note that he now owns a 14-game hitting streak.

He also went 4-5 last night with a dong. Phenomenal.

Sadly, Memphis scored an insurance run in the eighth and shut down the Clippers the rest of the way.

Akron RubberDucks 4, Somerset Patriots 2 (F/10)

The RubberDucks prevailed in extra innings thanks to a HBP, a bunt single, an RBI walk, and a wild pitch. This is not your typical style of small ball, but a win is a win, is it not?

Adam Scott spun six spectacular innings for Akron. On four hits he allowed two runs (one earned), struck out seven, and walked one. His ERA on the season dropped to 3.12.

Rick Ponticelli earned the win despite allowing the inherited runner to score. He may well deserve it; he pitched three scoreless (as per baseball’s unusual rules) innings in relief. Manuel Alvarez shut the door in the tenth for the win.

Steven Kwan homered to lead off the game. He later added an RBI single and a walk. Meanwhile, George Valera earned his 3rd Double-A RBI with his go-ahead, game-winning walk. Phenomenal.

Lake County Captains 5, Great Lakes Loons 0

Jhonkensy Noel earned two hits because he cannot be stopped.

Johnathan Rodriguez earned two hits and a walk, raising his average to .300 for the season.

Five other Captains earned hits, but the most decorated of all was Jose Tena. The infielder drove in two on his fourteenth home run of the season in the sixth inning. He also walked. Twice.

Also, Wilfri Peralta stole second and third base in the same inning.

Aaron Civale looked sharp in a rehab assignment, tossing four and a third innings while striking out four and allowing a single hit. Huner Gaddis also impressed, earning a win for four innings of shutout baseball. He walked two and allowed three hits but struck out eight.

Lynchburg Hillcats 5, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 11

Lenny Torres faced eight batters. He retired two of these and allowed six runs in the process. He started the game, by the way. Jacob Forrester arrived and in his attempt to stop the bleeding he fumbled an obsidian scalpel that embedded itself into the patient’s eyeball and immediately shattered; said another way, he retired no batters and allowed four runs. Two dingers. Quiet a day.

Hugo Villalobos gave up a run, too, just for kicks, but he had the decency to shut the door on the first inning before he did.

Note that Gabriel Rodriguez went 3-4 with two RBI. His Matchmaking ELO will drop just because his team lost. Madness.

In fact, it was a maddening night for the Hillcats all the way around. They drew ten walks and smacked nine hits, but only two of those came with runners in scoring position. Out of fifteen chances.

Oh, also, catcher Andres Melendez made two throwing errors. Phenomenal?

Just that kind of night. Even Trouty looks like garbage sometimes. Shake it off and go get them tomorrow.
