Cleveland ace Shane Bieber out at least two weeks with shoulder strain

Cleveland Indians ace and reigning American League Cy Young award winner Shane Bieber surrendered five earned runs in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Mariners and was responsible for some reduced velocity that worried onlookers.

According to Mandy Bell of the MLB website, Cleveland manager Terry Francona told reporters Monday that Bieber is heading to the 10-day injured list due to a right shoulder subscapularis muscle strain. In a corresponding roster move, Cleveland called relief pitcher Kyle Nelson up from Triple-A Columbus.

Additionally, Francona explained Bieber won't throw for at least two weeks before he is re-evaluated.

Sunday's loss dropped Bieber to 7-4 on the season with a 3.28 ERA. According to ESPN stats, the 26-year-old leads all of MLB with 130 strikeouts on the campaign.

Cleveland heads into Monday's home matchup against the Baltimore Orioles at 34-28 and in second place in the AL Central standings, 5.5 games behind the Chicago White Sox for the division lead.
