Diamondbacks OF, No. 2 pick Druw Jones to undergo shoulder surgery

Two weeks ago, the Arizona Diamondbacks and outfield prospect Druw Jones agreed to an historic $8.1 million signing bonus. The move came two days after the Arizona selected Jones with the second overall pick in the MLB Amateur Draft.

It was reported last week that the 18-year-old had suffered a shoulder injury during his first workout with the team. Zach Buchanan had an update on the situation Tuesday afternoon.

MLB.com's top prospect from the 2022 draft is the son of five-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove award winner Andruw Jones.

He hit .570 with 13 home runs, 39 RBI, 32 stolen bases and 72 runs scored for Wesleyan High School in Georgia this past season. Jones also served as a starting pitcher, finishing his senior campaign with a 10-1 record.

This is the second straight year where the D-Backs' top draft pick has been injured soon after being selected. In 2021, shortstop Jordan Lawler appeared in just two minor league games before undergoing shoulder surgery as well.
