The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the 10-day injured list on Saturday due to a left hamstring strain, after he exited Friday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies in the sixth inning. Gurriel suffered the injury while sliding in an attempt to make a catch and was later evaluated following imaging tests, which confirmed the hamstring strain.

The 32-year-old recently returned earlier in the season after recovering from a torn right ACL sustained in September 2025, but his 2026 campaign had already been underwhelming at the plate. Through 25 games, he is hitting .228/.284/.304 with one home run and 11 RBIs. His .588–.66 wRC+ range places him well below league-average production. His exit velocity has also trended downward, sitting at 87.5 mph this year, a slight dip compared to his 2024 and 2025 numbers.

Defensively, Gurriel had been more stable, playing 24 of his 25 games in left field and committing no errors in 2026, a performance that ranks above the league-average .989 fielding percentage for left fielders.

In a corresponding move, Arizona selected the contract of top prospect Tommy Troy, the team’s No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline and the 12th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of Stanford. Troy has not yet made his MLB debut. In Triple-A Reno this season, he is batting .307/.397/.449 with 28 RBIs across 44 games and an .846 OPS, continuing his reliable minor league production that includes a .295/.381/.429 line in 2025 at Triple-A level.

Troy has accumulated 268 minor league games since 2023 and has transitioned from his original infield role into increased outfield duty, logging 219 innings in the outfield this season compared to 162 at second base. He offers defensive flexibility in both left and center field, having gone error-free in center field over seven games.

As they juggle roster adjustments in a bid to remain above .500, the Diamondbacks are expected to review Troy’s role in the outfield rotation, while Gurriel’s recovery schedule will be determined by the extent of the strain.
