Betts has been out of action since June 15, suffering a cracked rib after an outfield collision with teammate Cody Bellinger.
On Saturday, Roberts said Betts' workouts were going well, and there was a "good possibility" he could be activated over the next few days.
Initially, there were plans to possibly have Betts play some games at second base upon his return. That may not be in the cards now.
Outfielder Chris Taylor fouled a ball off his left foot in the Dodgers' 7-2 win over the Padres on Saturday night. While X-rays after the game were negative, he'll be held out of the lineup Sunday, meaning Betts will need to return to the outfield.
Chris Taylor had a scan on his left foot; X-ray was negative. Dave Roberts said he'll likely be out of the lineup Sunday. Mookie Betts was originally slated to return at second base, but now looks like he'll be in right field if he's activated on Sunday from the IL, Roberts said.

The Dodgers went 10-5 without Betts in the lineup. They currently lead the National League West division by 4.5 games over the Padres, sitting at 49-28.
Betts is batting .273/.349/.535 with 17 home runs and 40 RBIs in 60 games for the Dodgers this season.
