Dodgers Attendance At Dodger Stadium Surpasses 3 Million For 9th Time In Past 11 Seasons
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

With an announced 46,144 fans at this past Saturday, Los Angeles Dodgers attendance at Dodger Stadium for the 2022 season surpassed 3 million, marking a ninth time in the past 11 years the team has reached that threshold.

The only exceptions during that span came in 2020, when fans were not allowed to attend games, and due to limited capacity for a portion of the 2021 schedule.

In two games since hitting the benchmark, the Dodgers have had announced attendances of 48,522 and 51,887. That’s brought their home attendance figure to an MLB-leading 3,132,742. The Dodgers’ home attendance average of 48,196 is also best in baseball.

The next-closest team is the St. Louis Cardinals, who entering play Tuesday have 2,744,282 in total home attendance and a 40,357 average.

Earlier this season, the Dodgers set the record for largest crowd to attend any MLB game in 2022 when they had an announced attendance of 53,165 for a July 21 matchup against the San Francisco Giants that was Cody Bellinger bobblehead night. That figure surpassed the crowd of 52,518 that attended the 2022 All-Star Game.

Then on July 26, Clayton Kershaw bobblehead night helped the Dodgers set a new 2022 single-game attendance record with 53,302 fans. That didn’t hold long, as Aug. 10, for the first ever Freddie Freeman bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers again raised the bar with a 53,432 announced attendance.

They do hold an advantage with the Dodger Stadium capacity being 56,000 — the second-largest in baseball. The RingCentral Coliseum has a 56,782 capacity, but the Oakland Athletics have struggled to consistently draw fans.

Excluding the pandemic-impacted year when fans were not permitted in 2020, the Dodgers have led all teams in home attendance eight consecutive seasons.

Dodgers attendance on the road

The Dodgers are averaging the third-highest road attendance at 30,685. It trails the Chicago Cubs (31,653) and New York Yankees (31,118).

Back in April, the Dodgers helped the San Diego Padres set an attendance record at Petco Park for a three-game series. The 133,856 total attendance for the weekend set bested the 133,456 mark from May 3-5, 2019, which also was for a three-game series that involved the Dodgers.
