Dodgers Make Mookie Betts Announcement Before Opening Day

MLB's Opening Day is this week, and the focus is on Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After missing the 2025 Tokyo Series due to illness and losing up to 15 pounds, questions arose about Betts' health and availability for the Dodgers' opener against the Detroit Tigers.

However, David Vassegh reports that after speaking with Betts, Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts is encouraged that he will be able to play in the Dodgers' last spring game against cross-town rival Los Angeles Angels.

More in the report says that Betts can finally start to hold down food after nearly a week of vomiting. He will warm up in the Freeway Series game and decide if he is healthy enough to go before the game starts.

That decision will likely also be a good indicator if Betts plays in the season's first game. The Dodgers won two games in Japan without Betts, but the lineup is undoubtedly more polished with him in it.

Freddie Freeman was also dealing with a rib injury, but he appears healthy after playing the last couple of games of the Dodgers' spring camp.

Another weird part of this whole Betts saga is that he felt himself getting sick a couple of days before leaving for Japan.

He still went on the trip but was sent home a day before the games, and he still seems to be feeling under the weather without an explanation. Everybody in baseball wishes well and a strong recovery for one of the game's biggest stars.
