In 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers were the best team in baseball, culminating with them winning their eighth World Series title in franchise history.
Los Angeles enter the 2025 MLB season with an even more stacked roster after adding two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell and Japanese pitching phenom Roki Sasaki via free agency.
Despite adding a strong pitching staff, the Dodgers were recently linked to Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara. Jeff Passan of ESPN shared that scouts are buzzing about his spring training performance as he returned from Tommy John surgery, missing the 2024 season.
He also noted that teams have begun to wonder if the 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner will be available at the deadline. Zach Rymer of Bleacher Report shared that Los Angeles could be among those interested in Alcantara, writing:
Another ace is the last thing the Dodgers need...for now. When you remember how hard they were hit by injuries last year, their rotation is perhaps vulnerable until proved otherwise, per Zach Rymer of Bleacher Report
While Alcantara missed all of 2024, he has been dominant during Spring Training. The two-time All-Star has pitched 12.1 innings without allowing an earned run, striking out ten batters and walking just three.
It is unclear if the Dodgers would offer a competitive package to land the Marlins ace. Los Angeles already has plenty of talent and depth in their starting rotation. Furthermore, Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw, and Tony Gonsolin are all expected to return to the mound soon.
