Don Mattingly will not return as Marlins manager next season: 'Time for a new voice'

Don Mattingly and the Miami Marlins have mutually agreed that he will not be returning as the team's manager for the 2023 season.

Mattingly managed the Marlins for seven years and his contract was set to expire at the end of this season. He said in a statement that all parties agreed a new voice was needed.

The Marlins compiled a 437-583 record during his tenure with the team.

Prior to managing the Marlins, Mattingly spent five years in the Los Angeles Dodgers dugout, where he never had a losing record and won at least 90 games three years in a row. His only postseason appearance with the Marlins came during the extended playoff year in 2020, where the Marlins finished the shortened season with a 31-29 record and a second place finish in the National League East.

The Marlins followed that by losing 95 games a year ago and are on track to lose 90 games again this season.
