A former Toronto Blue Jay has hung up the cleats.

Outfielder Cam Eden announced via his Instagram on Thursday evening that he has retired. His stint with the big league team wasn’t long, but he spent the bulk of his career in the Blue Jays’ minor league system.

Late in the 2023 season, with the Blue Jays hunting for a wild card spot, Eden was added to the 26-man and 40-man roster to give the Blue Jays a speedy pinch runner. The outfielder earned just six plate appearances, notching his first and only hit of his big league career on October 1st, 2023 against the Tampa Bay Rays. It was Eden’s only start of his career as well.

Drafted in the sixth-round of the 2019 draft, Eden spent years in the Blue Jays system, playing for the Vancouver Canadians, both in short-season A following being drafted, as well as when they became the High-A team.

The speedy outfielder eventually made the upper-minors in 2022, slashing .215/.292/.375 with 10 home runs with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Overall, his 12 home runs over the course of the season was his career-best, and he finished the season with a 97 wRC+.

Beginning the 2023 season in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons, Eden slashed .257/.354/.333 with three home runs in 460 plate appearances for an 85 wRC+. When he reached first base that season, it was a good bet that he’d steal, picking up 53 stolen bases on 57 attempts. Funnily enough, despite being a pinch-runner on three separate occasions in the big leagues, Eden never stole a big league base.

Following the 2023 season, Eden was outrighted to Triple-A, where he began the 2024 season. Over 332 plate appearances with the Bisons, he slashed .198/.299/.322 with seven home runs in 332 plate appearances for a 68 wRC+. In early August, Eden was traded to the New York Yankees, where he finished his career.

The rest of his 2024 season was spent with their Triple-A team, where he slashed .231/.286/.385 with a home run in 43 plate appearances. Eden appeared in 41 games in the Yankees system last season hitting a home run in 136 plate appearances split between Single-A, Double-A, and Triple-A, before being released in August 2025.

Before the start of the season, Eden signed with the American Association’s Kansas City Monarchs, but didn’t appear in a game before announcing retirement.
